Testing help

Testing guidance

Find the questions to ask about STI testing and learn how to seek professional care in Japan.

When to get prompt professional help

For recent possible HIV exposure, contact a healthcare professional urgently about PEP without waiting for a test result. Seek prompt care for severe pain, fever, or symptoms during pregnancy.

Public health testing

Public health centers may offer testing when you have no symptoms and your partner has no known infection. Ask the center about test coverage, eligibility, fees and booking.

Hospitals and clinics

Contact a healthcare facility if you have symptoms, a partner has tested positive, or you need help interpreting a result or getting treatment. Bring your test report if you have one.

What to ask before a test

  1. Ask which infections and sample sites can be tested, and when to test.
  2. Confirm whether you need an appointment and ask for the total fees.
  3. Ask how to receive results and whom to contact for follow-up or treatment.
