Treatments for genital warts can be divided into the following three categories:
1. Topical drug treatment: 0.5% podophyllotoxin, 2 times/d, 3 days as a course of treatment, repeated use must be separated by 4 days or more; 500% trichloroacetic acid solution, applied externally, once a week, no more than 6 times in a row, to cause tissue necrosis, dryness and shedding; 5% 5-fluorouracil cream, applied externally, 1-2 times/d, prohibited for pregnant women; 5% imiquimod cream is a topical immunomodulator that stimulates local production of interferon and other cytokines. It should be applied externally 2-3 times a week and washed off 6-8 hours after use. Generally, the warts can be removed 8-10 weeks after use.
2. Physical therapy: laser, freezing, and electrocautery.
3. Interferon can be used for internal drug treatment . Interferon has anti-proliferative, anti-viral, anti-tumor and immunomodulatory effects and can be used as an adjuvant therapy. 1 million U to 3 million U, intramuscular injection, 3 times a week, at least 4 weeks, can also be injected into the skin lesions.
